The Michael Corinne West Catalogue Raisonné Project (MCWCR) aims to preserve and enhance the artwork and writings of artist and poet Michael (Corinne) West (1908–1991). As a first-generation Abstract Expressionist, she changed her name from Corinne to Michael to avoid both personal and professional prejudice among her peers. Studying with Hans Hofmann and forging close relationships with Arshile Gorky and Richard Pousette-Dart, she proved to be a vital force in a male-dominated art world. Established in 2021, the MCWCR will feature a digital catalogue raisonné and archive, creating important links between West’s body of work and her texts, poetry, correspondence, and musings on art and exhibitions. The Project is dedicated to highlighting the originality and determination of this exceptional and talented artist.
